Domain Management
If you are hosted with Datagate we will manage your
domains for you. This means that you can forget about
having to remember when to renew your domains and let
us take care of the hassle. When your domains are up
for renewal, we will renew them for you (We are Nominet
and Netsol partners) and simply pass on the fee that
we pay for you.
If you have a co.uk domain we will renew it free of
charge.
Please find below some information of transferring
your domain to us (and away from us).
Domain Registration
Ordering a new domain
Ordinarily you will register domains when ordering
web hosting. Existing customers may also request a domain
registration by e-mail.
Domain renewal
All domains managed by Datagate are automatically renewed
1 month before expiry. If you do not wish to renew a
domain please give us more than 1 months notice
Transferring Domains
Domains can only be transferred to Datagate to manage
if you are a registered customer. For each additional
domain we manage for you, you will need to set up a
Domain Keeper account.
A domain keeper account for existing customers is £29.95
excl. VAT.
This account includes:
- 10 POP3 mailboxes
- Domain parking
- Unlimited e-mail forwarding
This is only available to existing customers who can
order it by e-mailing support@web-merchant.co.uk.
If you do not want Datagate to manage your domain,
but would like to use your domain with your Datagate
hosting, you can instruct your registrar to point it
at our DNS servers and we will set it up to point at
your web share.
This service is free.
To Datagate
For UK domains (.co.uk , org.uk)
1. Send an e-mail to support@web-merchant.co.uk.
telling us you are transferring your domain to us and
where you want it pointed (at which account).
2. get you domain's IPS tag changed to DATAGATE.
This can be done in two ways:
a. Send a fax on headed paper to Nominet on +44(0)1865
332299 requesting that your IPS tag be changed to DATAGATE.
b. Ask your existing ISP / Hosting company to change
your domain's IPS tag to DATAGATE.
For International domains (.com , .net, .org, .info,
.biz and other TLD):
1. Send an e-mail to support@web-merchant.co.uk
requesting that we transferring your domain to Datagate.
2. We will initiate transfer request with registrar
if possible* (see below)
3. If your registrar request you to change the details
on their online system use the following table:

3. For the successful transfer of a domains it is required
that either the admin or technical contact reply to
the e-mail from the registrar requesting confirmation
that the domain is to be moved. If this is ignored or
otherwise no replied to - the domain will not be transferred.
If it is replied to correctly, the domain is given to
us.
4. Once we have the domain, it takes a maximum of 24
hours to fully propagate across the internet.
* Since deregulation of the domain name market there
are now multiple registrars, each with their own procedures
for domain transfers. The above procedure refer to domains
registered via Netsol.com (formerly Network Solutions
/ Verisign). If you have registered your domain via
UK2net, joker.com etc, you may have to follow their
procedures for transferring domains.
From Datagate
For UK domains (.co.uk, org.uk)
1. Contact support and request that we transfer the
domain to your new host/ISP. You will need to give us
their IPS tag (e.g. ours is DATAGATE). We will contact
you to verify the request.
2. We change the IPS tag to that nominated by you and
your nominate host / ISP takes control of the domain.
3. The domain takes between 8 and 24 hours to reflect
its new settings.
For International domains (.com , .net, .org, .info):
1. Your new host / ISP requests the domain be transferred
to them.
2. We verify this is your intention (to transfer) by
calling or e-mailing and requesting confirmation by
fax on letter headed paper.
3. Once we are satisfied you intend to transfer your
domain, we reply to the e-mail (as technical contacts)
authorizing the transfer.
Pointing Domains at our servers
If you would like to point your domain at our DNS servers
but leave it with your registrar, then either instruct
you current host/isp/registrar or use your Control Panel
to point your domain to:
Primary: solair.datagate.co.uk 62.204.32.3
Secondary: ns2.datagate.net.uk 62.204.32.5
Please e-mail support@web-merchant.co.uk
and inform us of the change and we will update our DNS
server.
Changing
Registrars
By changing your registrar to Verisign, billing management
of your domain can be taken over by DataGate. This means
that we will notify you of the need to re-register your
domain and invoice you directly.

FROM Verisign
You will have to initiate the transfer of your domain
with your new ISP/host. Requests must be received by
Verisign at least 7 days prior to your domain expiration
date. If the transfer is authorised we will release
domains soon we receive an email form Verisign.
Costs
Except for new Domain Keeper accounts, we do not charge
for domain transfers to or from us. However at our discretion,
we charge a £25 + VAT admin fee. This is to cover
any security checks that may be needed and also any
paperwork that could be sent out.
