Searching for .co.uk domains

WHOIS is a FREE look-up service that you can use to check whether or not a .uk domain name has been registered. If the domain name you search for has already been registered, the WHOIS will provide information about the company or individual who registered it.

You can access the WHOIS service from the front page of nominets website. Enter the domain name you wish to check in the WHOIS search box and click on 'go'. Do not enter 'www' in front of the domain name, and ensure you put in the whole of the domain name e.g. 'web-merchant.co.uk'.

Searching for .com domains

Results for .com and .net are provided courtesy of Verisign Global Registry Services. For these top-level domains, the results of a successful search will contain only technical information about the registered domain name and referral information for the registrar of the domain name. In the Shared Registration System model, registrars are responsible for maintaining Whois domain name contact information. Please refer to the registrar's Whois service for additional information.
